A 38-year-old Indian national has been arrested in the United States.

The Indian-origin man was arrested for illegally bringing foreign people in the US with the intention of earning money, according to the Department of Justice.

New Jersey US Attorney Craig Carpenito told on Monday that Bhavin Patel has been charged by indictment with one count of conspiracy to bring in and harbor aliens and six counts of smuggling foreign nationals into the US via commercial airline flights.

Patel will be produced before US District Judge John Michael Vazquez on December 18, 2018.

He was arrested from Newark Liberty International Airport on December 7 by special agents of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

Patel can be sentenced up to 10 years of imprisonment if found guilty.

Each substantil charge of smuggling carries a maximum possible sentence of five years in jail.
