Solidarity gatherings reported in Europe and North America as protesters seek accountability over alleged irregularities
LONDON/NEW YORK, July 24, 2026 — Members of the Indian diaspora have organized demonstrations in several international cities to express solidarity with a student-led campaign seeking accountability over alleged irregularities in India’s competitive examinations.
Media reports identified gatherings in London, Berlin, Dublin, Amsterdam, New York and Vancouver. Some demonstrations were held near Indian diplomatic missions, while others took place at public locations, including Union Square in New York.
Participants supported the movement associated with the Cockroach Janta Party, or CJP, which emerged from online satire before becoming connected with wider student concerns over examination integrity, paper leaks and employment insecurity.
Protesters called for greater transparency in the examination system and political accountability. Some also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. That demand represents the protesters’ position; no finding has established the minister’s personal involvement in any alleged examination wrongdoing.
Reports indicated that overseas events were organized by a combination of student bodies, diaspora groups and informal social-media networks. The Student Federation of India-UK was identified among the groups involved in Britain.
Published reports offered differing or independently unverified estimates of attendance. For that reason, no overall crowd figure can presently be stated with confidence.
The demonstrations show how domestic Indian issues can quickly develop an international dimension through diaspora networks. Although overseas protests have no direct role in determining Indian government policy, they can increase international visibility and maintain pressure for an official response.
