Chandigarh – Sunil Jakhar son of Senior Congress Leader Balram Jakhar who is also known as longest serving Lok Sabha Speaker, joins Bhartiya Janta Party after quitting the oldest politucal party Congress  at the age of 61.

Last month, Congress disciplinary committee panel had recommended that Jakhar be suspended from the party for two years and also demanded to remove him from all posts.The leader was served show cause notice for his comments on former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi.

Slamming Congress Jakhar said that they could sack him but could not silence his voice. He talked about many disappointments and ‘ideological miss’ on the party of the senior leaders of the party. While speaking after joining BJP in Delhi, Jakhar did not forget to refer Congress party as family but at the sametime also shared his viewpoint.

It is reported that Sunil Jakhar is looking forward to be nominated as RajSabha member. But, sources indicate that Jakhar could be the candidate of choice of BJP for Sangrur bypoll.

Earlier, Jakhar had written a post on twitter a few months ago when Captain Amarinder Singh resigned from Congress and then met Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Jakhar had quoted lines of famous ‘Urdu Shayar’ Badir Bashr. Incidently, Jakhar has also to quit on the same note and joins BJP.

Subsequently, it would be for the first time that BJP could be  planning to field a candidate from Sangrur Lok Sabha contituency. Two names, Parminder Dhindsa and Arvind Khurana were doing rounds till the time Jakhar entered in BJP.

Punjab Lok Congress President and former chief minister Amarinder Singh congratulated Jakhar for joing BJP and said that Jakhar , now , is right man in the right party. Honest and upright leaders like him cannot breathe in the congress anymore.
