Takaichi government targets ¥370 trillion in public and private investment while affirming Bank of Japan independence

TOKYO, July 22, 2026 — Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s government has finalized its first major economic-policy roadmap, setting ambitious investment targets while attempting to calm concerns about rising public debt and possible political pressure on the Bank of Japan.
