Washington – International pharmaceutical firm Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has been reportedly selling cancerous baby powders for years.
According to the disclosure by a news agency, between 1971 and 2000, the company used asbestos in its products and had information of every person working in the company.
Asbestos causes a risk of cancer in the human body.
In the reports, some intriguing documents and sources said that Johnson and Johnson’s officials, administrators, scientists, doctors, and lawyers had known to have asbestos in the powder, but they kept it hidden.
American regulators had planned to limit asbestos in cosmetic talcum powder, but the company made pressure on regulators against these attempts to protect themselves.
However, the company got success against the United States regulations.
Johnson & Johnson had been earlier accused several times of having harmful chemicals in baby products.
In July this year, the St Louis Court had imposed a fine of $ 4.7 billion on the company’s powder after receiving asbestos in the powder.
This amount was given to 22 women and their families, who claimed to have cancer due to this powder.
This was the first case when cancer was detected due to asbestos.
According to the report, Johnson and Johnson have denied all charges.
The company says that the petitioners’ lawyers have tampered the documents for their benefit so that the court can create an atmosphere of confusion.
After this report, the stock of the company in the US stock fell 10 percent on Friday.
