Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia Charitable Trust Reg. organized a meeting for thanking the mayor of Amritsar Karamjit Singh Rintu for taking the initiative of starting the procedure to rebuild Darwaza Ahluwalia near Gheo Mandi Amritsar.
Chairman of the trust, Charanjit Singh Walia said in the meeting that a letter was written to Cabinet Minister Om Prakash Soni and Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu, requesting that the Ahluwalia door in Amritsar be restored.
Walia said that 17 years ago the foundation stone was laid for the restoration of the Darwaza Ahluwalia. He said that in 2003 itself, the Municipal Corporation of Amritsar unanimously passed the proposal for the re-establishment of Darwaza Ahluwalia.
Charanjit Singh Walia said that after the British established rule in Punjab in 1849, Darwaza Ahluwalia was demolished by the Britishers. He said that on behalf of the Trust, the Municipal Corporation of Amritsar was provided with archaic maps, in which the Darwaza Ahluwalia is referred. He said that on the basis of this, now the Darwaza Ahluwalia is going to be established again.
He also thanked Member Parliament Gurjit Singh Aujla, Cabinet Minister Punjab Om Prakash Soni and MLA Raj Kumar Verka from Amritsar on the occasion. He said that in particular, former Health Minister Inderjeet Singh Zira has played an important role in getting this work done for which the Trust is highly thankful to him. He  also specially thanked Pradeep Singh Walia of the Ahluwalia fraternity in Amritsar, whose tireless efforts, have made the project possible.
Charanjit Singh Walia also demanded to establish the effigies of Sultan ul Kaum Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, Baba Baghel Singh and Sardar Jassa Singh Ramgarhia outside the Darbar Sahib, from where the effigies of Gaidda and Bhangra dancers have been removed, so that the Sikhs could know about their warriors. He said that the trust has already written letter to the Mayor of Amritsar Municipal Corporation separately.
In this meeting, former Municipal Councilor Mohali Harinder Pal Singh Billa, former Councilor Gurmeet Singh Walia, Trust Vice Chairman GS Rosha, General Secretary Pal Mohinder Singh Walia, Secretary Finance Padmajit Singh Walia, Satnam Singh Walia, Eng. Amarjeet Singh Walia Hoshiarpur, Dr. Paramjit Singh Walia, Amarjit Singh Walia, Inderpal Singh Walia, Narinder Singh Walia Tarn Taran, Amritpal Singh Amritsar, Sarabjit Singh Pal were also present.
