Nepal’s military has deployed cargo drones to transport essential supplies into communities isolated by the catastrophic flooding that followed a glacier collapse on August 26.
Four DJI FlyCart 100 drones provided by China are reportedly completing between 10 and 16 missions each day. A drone can carry up to 60 kilograms and cover a distance of approximately four kilometres. The aircraft are delivering food, medicine and fuel while also assisting with reconnaissance and the recovery of victims.
Many roads and bridges remain damaged, while helicopters are primarily occupied with rescue and search operations.
Why it matters: Cargo drones are helping emergency teams reach remote Himalayan communities faster and at a lower operational cost than conventional aircraft.
