Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary today said that with the Cabinet decision to provide 33 percent reservation to women under direct recruitment in state civil services, the dream of the women of state to work in public sector will be fulfilled as the state government will provide one third ensured employability for Punjab women with given with legal right.

Hailing the decision of Council of Minister, Mrs. Chaudhary expressed gratitude towards the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and entire Ministers for the momentous decision taken to make employment a legal right for the women. She said that the state government recognizes the centrality of gender equality and women empowerment, thus committed to provide ample opportunities to women to create level playing field in all the working spheres. “Women numerically constitute half of humanity but their influence transfuses in all the dimensions of society, polity and economy,” she added.

The Cabinet Minister further said, reservation for women in government jobs will ensure the creation of leadership quality in women community. She claimed that the government has taken various measures to ensure safety, security and well being of women. Of which, she added, includes One Stop Centres” which provide medical, psychological, legal, police and shelter facilities under a common roof.

Pertinent to mention here that the Council of Ministers gave its nod to the Punjab Civil Services (Reservation of Posts for Women) Rules, 2020 to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in the direct recruitment to the posts in Government sector, as well as recruitment to Boards and Corporations in Group A, B, C and D posts.
She further said that cabinet has also given its nod for the creation of legal clerk cadre in Punjab in order to effectively pursue court cases/legal matters in a timely manner by approving amendment to the Punjab Civil Secretariat (State Services Class-III) Rules, 1976.
