A painting by Amrita Sher-Gil, ‘In the Ladies’ Enclosure’ (1938), fetched ₹37.8 crore at auction house Saffronart’s sale in Mumbai on Tuesday.

This is the highest achieved by Sher-Gil in an auction, and the second-most expensive artwork by an Indian. VS Gaitonde’s ‘Untitled’ (1961), which sold for ₹39.98 crore in March, remains the most expensive artwork by an Indian artist.
