The protesters here sat half naked at the Rally ground in the chilling cold, hoping to attract attention of the government on this serious issue. Paramjit Singh Kainth, President, National Scheduled Castes Alliance said, “our protest has been going on since 28th December and this anti-scheduled castes government of Captain Amarinder Singh in Punjab has not yet heeded to any our demands and not even sent any proposal for a solution to the future of 3 lakh students who have been denied admission into colleges in the last 2020-21 academic year and  7 lakh students who have been denied degrees/certificates since the last 3 years by the colleges/universities in Punjab.”

“The corruption rampant in this government has resulted in an entire generation of young students from the Scheduled Castes, Other backward classes and marginalized communities to suffer needlessly without any fault of their own. The entire Post Matric Scholarship scam is the result of inefficiencies and greed of ministers in this government especially Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot who has been accused of embezzlement of Rs. 63 crore from the funds in the scheme. We demand a CBI inquiry into this scam and immediate resignation of the Minister.” said Mr. Kainth.

Criticizing the government over its lax attitude, Paramjit Singh Kainth said, “The Baba Saheb Post Matric Scholarship scheme which the Punjab Government started was rejected by the Joint Committee of Colleges in Punjab which declared its inability to support the 60:40 scheme of funding devised by the State. We demand that instead of being a mere paper tiger government, they should pay attention to the injustices and discrimination being met on the ground with the SC community and solve these issues immediately.”
