Doug Ford’s campaign adviser has been appointed as trade representative of Ontario to the United States.
Replacing former Liberal legislator Monique Smith, Ian Todd will take up the post in Washington, D.C. on Monday.
Earlier this year, when his Progressive Conservatives won a majority government, Smith was removed from the post by Ford.
Todd will make $75,000 more than Smith that is $350,000 a year.
Trade representative of Ontario will promote cross-border trade, the province’s interests in the USA and investment.
Also, Ian Todd will serve as a special adviser to Doug Ford.
However, Jim Wilson, Economic Development Minister defended the salary of Todd, saying that he will not be eligible for termination or pension payments.
“The government has also ended contracts with consultants and legal advisers on the trade file that will save taxpayers $710,000 per year,” said Economic Development Minister.
