Chandigarh – Senior congress leader & Punjab’s leader of the opposition (LoP) Partap Singh Bajwa has criticized Bhagwant Mann government for its failure to protect the medical fraternity in the state as they were being constantly assaulted by the disgruntled elements.

Bajwa while referring to the incident occured on saturday at civil hospital Phagwara said it was really unfortunate & disheartening to learn that a 16 year old young boy lost his life after being hit by a passenger train. However to hold the doctor and the paramedic staff responsible for his death was equally unfortunate.

Later one doctor and a lab technician who were attending on the deceased boy were mercilessly beaten, forcing the entire hospital staff to strike off the work in protest. Even the medical staff from Bholath, Sultanpur Lodhi and Kapurthala went on strike to express solidarity with their Phagwara counterparts.

Bajwa said such incidents occur time and again as the Bhagwant Mann government and the state police failed to act in similar incidents on previous occasions.

Bajwa said in the month of September Jalandhar Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), MLA Sheetal Aungural’s brother Rajan Aungural went to the civil hospital along with his supporters demanding a medico legal report (MLR) as per their wish and liking. When the Emergency Medical Officer (EMO) Dr. Harveen Kaur refused to toe their line; they began not only threatening her and the other paramedical staff present there but also damaged the property of the hospital and created ruckus in full public view.

“ The doctor and the entire medical fraternity reported the matter to the Jalandhar police but the latter refused to act under political pressure. Now such incidents where the government and the police refuse to act only emboldens the disgruntled elements and put safety and security of the medical fraternity at risk”, added Bajwa.
