The women wing of Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) Punjab today extended support to Asha workers who were cane charged while going to gherao the ‘royal palace’ of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in Patiala for their genuine demands.

AAP women wing observer Baljinder Kaur, Women wing’s president Raj Lali Gill and co president Jiwanjot Kaur in a statement said that Capt Amarinder Singh government which has failed on every front is creating an atmosphere of confrontation between employee organisations and police force so that public issues couldn’t be highlighted. They said that the demands of employees could be settled on the negotiable table.They said that demand by Accredited Social Health Activists Union to enhance their honorarium is very genuine and should be accepted immediately.

AASP women leaders said that Asha workers are not an exception but the government is adopting same policy towards mid-day meal workers and Anganwadi workers who are agitating since long for their demands of hike in monthly honorarium. They said that over one lakh women workers were on roads and neither previous Badal government and nor the present Congress government is keen to resolve the issue. Baljinder Kaur said that she would raise the issue on floor of house in next session to seek justice for women workers and employees.

Raj Gill said that Asha workers were forced to work on monthly honorarium of Rs.1000 to 2000 which is much less than even minimum wages of laborers.Jiwanjot Kaur said that Haryana was giving Rs.4000 per month to Asha workers and Delhi government is giving Rs.3000 and also Rs.2000 extra for six months for pregnant Asha workers.
