Chandigarh, December 4: The Punjab Government has set up a state level award dedicated to Prof. Gurdial Singh for his contribution to Punjabi literature. In a statement issued here, Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Higher Education and Languages Minister said that the Punjab Government has set up the Best Literary Book Award (Translation) in the name of Prof. Gurdial Singh.

Mr. Tript Bajwa said that the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh led Punjab Government has fulfilled an election manifesto promise fulfilling which was made during 2017.  He said that it has been decided to set up the Best Literary Book Award (Translation) dedicated to Prof. Gurdial Singh’s contribution to Punjabi literature. Prof. Gurdial Singh is a world renowned personality of Punjabi literature who does not need any introduction. He has been awarded Punjabi Sahit Puraskar, Punjabi Sahit Ratna Puraskar by the Language Department of the Punjab Government as well as Gyanpeeth Award of the Government of India.

The Higher Education and Languages Minister further said that it is a matter of great pride for the Punjabi world that the Punjab Government has established the Best Literary Book Award in the name of Prof. Gurdial Singh. Giving more details in this regard, he said that this award would be given to the author of the best book translated into Punjabi every year from the year 2021 in which an amount of Rs. 21,000 would be awarded with a plaque and a shawl. For this award authors can send books published from 01 January 2020 to 31 December 2020 to the Department of Languages, Punjab till 30 April 2021.
