Chandigarh: To celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, Punjab Police under the banner of SAANJH have been organizing various activities focusing on the Women Health and Women Education for Empowerment. Starting from March 2, Health check-up and Medical camps for Women besides Cancer Awareness talks are being organised in all the districts, which will culminate on Tuesday after week-long celebrations.

Divulging details, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Community Affairs Division and Crime against Women & Children, V Neeraja stated that on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, various activities for women were being organized from March 2, 2022, to commemorate the International Women’s Day. Districts including SBS Nagar, Malerkotla and Barnala etc have organized medical camps for Women including Health awareness camps, interactive sessions on Victim Relief Compensation Scheme , Womens rights and laws against sexual harassment at Workplace , etc.

ADGP V Neeraja said that CPs/SSPs in all the districts in coordination with NGOs and Social activities invited doctors including Gynaecologists from the best hospitals in their respective districts for conducting medical awareness camps and sessions besides conducting health check-ups of women. ADGP V Neeraja said early identification of diseases like cancer would help in its treatment, therefore it is important to be aware of the symptoms and get regular health check ups.

In addition to this, the ADGP said that District Police in association with NGOs and Saanjh members are conducting seminars in various schools and distributing educational material to the girl students under the “Education for Empowerment” programme initiated by the Punjab Police. Giving more details, She said that Malerkotla and SBS Nagar Police have organised a Special Rahat Camp to deal with Women related complaints.

Similarly, Mohali Police had organised an event “Walk for Women” and over 250 people joined a 4Km walk from PS Sohana to SSP Office Mohali. The ADGP said that the Amritsar Police has conducted cancer awareness and women health seminars along with a health check up for women Police Personnel by a team of 18 doctors from Government Medical College, Amritsar headed by HOD Dr Amritpal Kaur.

She also mentioned that dedicated ‘Women Help Desks’ have been established in all 382 Police Stations in Punjab to provide women complainants a friendly and comfortable place in the Police Stations. A special helpline for women 181 has been working especially for women to file complaints, she said adding that, these complaints are redressed immediately by Punjab Police Mahila Mitras (Women Police Officials) at the Women Police Desks established in the Police Stations.

ADGP V Neeraja said that a three-day Awareness Camp will be conducted by the all Women Help Desks in their jurisdiction police stations starting from March 8 on the theme ‘Report Violence against Women’ in which women will be sensitised on the various provisions in law for protection of Women and to encourage to report any violence against them.
