The Trump administration is reportedly preparing to revoke as many as 200,000 B1 business and B2 tourism visas belonging to foreign nationals who entered the United States temporarily and subsequently applied for asylum.
The proposed review reportedly covers visas issued between 2016 and 2026. The State Department is working with the Department of Homeland Security to identify the individuals who may be affected.
Revocation of a visitor visa would not necessarily lead to immediate removal from the country. People with pending asylum applications may remain subject to immigration proceedings under a different legal classification.
The proposed measure is expected to be introduced in phases and could face court challenges. A final government announcement was still awaited.
If implemented on the reported scale, the initiative could become the largest coordinated visa-revocation exercise in U.S. history and may affect nationals of several countries.
