The three days annual Saheedi Jor Mel held to commemorate the martyrdom of the younger Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh ji, who were bricked alive here by the rulers of that time for moving on the path of truth, began here today with religious fervors and ceremonies.

To mark the beginning “Akhand Path Sahib of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji” was started at Gurudwara Joti Sarup Sahib, where the bodies of Sahibzadas and Mata Gujri ji were cremated. Bhai Harpal Singh, Head Granthi of Gurudwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib performed the beginning “Ardas” Amrit Kaur Gill Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar SDM Fatehgarh Sahib, Karnail Singh Panjoli, Bhai Gurpreet Singh Randhawa, Satwinder Singh Tohra, Ravinder Singh Khalsa and Avtar Singh Ria all SGPC members and a large number of devotees were present on the occasion.

On the very first day of Saheedi Jor Mel, a sea of devotees thronged Gurudwaras and long queues were witnessed at Gurudwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib and Sri Gurudwara Joti Swarup Sahib. The devotees are coming along with ” Nagar Kirtans” reciting Gurbani.

On an opening day, SGPC organized Gatka, painting, essay writing, Kavishri and Bhajan competition among various SGPC college students at Mata Gujri College Fatehgarh Sahib.

Addressing the media DC Amrit Kaur Gill and SSP Amneet Kondal said that amid pandemic threat all precautions are being undertaken. Free masks and COVID testing is being done. The wine shops, gambling stalls, dance pandals, circuses, swings, and other sources of entertainment have been banned. 24 hours power supply, clean drinking water, stay, toilet and medical facilities are being provided round the clock to the pilgrims.

Minibusses and e-rickshaws are carrying the senior citizens, ladies free of cost from different destinations to Gurudwara Sahib. SSP said the district police have installed CCTV cameras and put in drones for surveillance to keep a close watch on anti-social elements, 21 free parking sites have been set up and foolproof security is ensured. More than 350 Community Kitchens have started serving Langer to the devotees.
