Chandigarh: The government would take stern action against the hospitals which were taking advantage of the compulsion of the patients during the covid-19 epidemic and looting their finances. This was stated by the Health and Family Welfare Minister. Balbir Singh Sidhu during a virtual meeting with the state level committee of the Indian Medical Association. He said that there were many complaints of private hospitals charging more than the rates fixed by the government and any hospital doing so would not be spared. “We are trying our best to ensure that whatever is done is for the betterment of all but if any hospital or doctor robs any patient then the government will be forced to take strict action against them,” he said. Under the Epidemic Act, the government has the power to close or take over hospitals that do so.

He appealed to all the private hospitals not to take advantage of the compulsion of any patient and consider it as a warning and not to force the government to take any drastic action. He said that during this difficult time our doctors and para medical staff (including government and private sector) have set a good example of serving the people and are serving the people wholeheartedly but there are some black sheep. They are taking advantage of these circumstances and cheating the people which can tarnish the image of the entire profession. He sternly warned such illegal elements to stop the wrongdoings with immediate effect or else strict action would be taken against them and no one would be spared.
