Chandigarh – The decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court upholding the 103rd Amendment to the Constitution clears the way for 10% reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in admissions to the educational institutions and government jobs and is an endorsement of the secular vision of the Congress Party for upliftment and prosperity of all sections of the society.
Realizing the predicament of the really deserving poor common man not covered under caste-based reservations under the Constitution, the Congress Government led by Dr. Manmohan Singh hammered out a Bill in 2014 after prolonged discussions on the recommendations made by the Sinho Commission constituted by it, in July 2010, that the Bill took shape of the Act after a lapse of more than five years under the present BJP dispensation. The Act, which was challenged in the Supreme Court, has finally been held to be in consonance with the underlying spirit of the Constitution which guarantees to equality of similarly situated persons before the law.
The judgment of the Hon’ble Supreme Court would trigger a great relief for the common poor people across the nation to tide over their economic woes to make full use of their capabilities and take benefit of reservations like the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes to ensure inclusive growth in the society.
