The US Secret Services intercepted suspicious packages sent to former US President Barack Obama, former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and the Time Warner Center in New York, said officials on Wednesday.
As per sources, the package addressed to the White House was intercepted at a far-away facility.
The suspicious packages sent to the two top Democrats and a bomb sent to one of their major donors came about two weeks before the high-stakes November 6 election that will decide whether Republicans continue control of Congress in a country that has become extremely polarized.
According to the Secret Service, the package sent to Obama was found on early Wednesday while the one addressed to Clinton was found late Tuesday, both through the routine mail.
They added that Both Clinton and Obama were not at risk.
In a statement, the White House criticized the attempted attacks on Clinton and Obama.
Sarah Sanders, spokesperson of White House said, “These terrorizing acts are despicable, and anyone responsible will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
The FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) said it was examining the packages.
In a report, the Secret Service said, “The packages were instantaneously identified during routine mail screening procedures as possible explosive devices and were aptly handled as such.”
