“Seventy percent of Afghans live in rural areas and agriculture is vital to the Afghan population,” Ren Paulson, director of the Organization for Agriculture’s Emergency and Flexibility Office, told a video conference from Kabul.

It represents more than 25 per cent of Afghanistan’s GDP, employs 45 per cent of the workers directly and “most importantly, it is the livelihood of 80 per cent of the Afghan population,” he said.
