The United States has launched another round of airstrikes against Iranian military installations following an attack in Jordan that killed two American service members and left another missing.
According to the U.S. military, the latest operation marked the eighth consecutive night of American strikes against Iran. The targets reportedly included coastal surveillance systems, air-defence facilities and military infrastructure associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting American military facilities and regional allies. Kuwait reported interceptions as well as damage to an oil facility, while Bahrain and Jordan also activated defensive systems.
Iranian state media claimed that several U.S. aircraft and military installations were damaged. However, some of these claims had not been independently verified at the time of publication.
The renewed fighting follows the collapse of a temporary ceasefire and a widening confrontation over the Strait of Hormuz. The strategically important waterway normally handles approximately one-fifth of the world’s traded oil supply, making any disruption a serious concern for international energy markets.
The United States has been reinforcing its military presence in the region, while diplomatic efforts continue to prevent the conflict from expanding further. Nevertheless, the increasing frequency of retaliatory attacks has raised fears that additional Middle Eastern countries could be drawn into the confrontation.
