More than a dozen independent United Nations human-rights experts have called on the United States to suspend the removal of migrants to countries other than their homelands.
The experts warned that some deportees could face torture, persecution, mistreatment or further transfer after being sent to countries with which they have no meaningful connection. The U.S. administration maintains that its third-country removal arrangements are legal.
The UN experts are independent monitors affiliated with the UN Human Rights Council; their statement is not a binding court order.
