Uplifting living standard of labourers priority of State Government: Lal Chand Kataruchak

Presides over meeting with representatives of labour unions from across Punjab

Chandigarh -The Punjab Government led by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is fully committed to ensure the welfare of every section of the society with raising the living standard of labourers being top priority for which no stone would be left unturned.

These views were expressed here today at the Anaj Bhawan in Sector 39 by the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak while presiding over a meeting with the representatives of the labour unions from across the State. He reiterated that the exploitation of the labour force would not be tolerated at any cost.

The Minister further said that the rule stands already enforced that the 50 percent share of the deductions with regard to the E.P.F. and E.S.I. would be contributed by the labourers while the rest 50 percent would be contributed by the contractors. As far as the Worker Management Committees are concerned, the same would be further strengthened and only those representatives would be included which would be recommended by the Joint Action Committee, said Kataruchak adding that the issue concerning making direct payments to the labourers without the interference of the contractors would be positively considered by the Government. The Minister also directed that the process of making payments to the labourers must be speeded up.

Among others present on the occasion included the Director, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Mr. Ghanshyam Thori.
