The US government has stopped accepting new permanent labour-certification applications—and processing pending ones—involving eight major technology and consulting companies.
The affected employers are Microsoft, Adobe, Cognizant, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, HCL Technologies and Capgemini. PERM certification is generally an important early step when an employer sponsors a foreign worker for employment-based permanent residence.
The suspension could delay green-card cases involving many Indian professionals employed by these companies. It does not automatically revoke existing H-1B visas, approved green cards or the lawful status of affected workers.
US officials allege that parts of the employment-based immigration system were misused. Those allegations remain subject to investigation and have not been established against every company through a final court judgment.
