Health Canada warned that a few EpiPen and EpiPen Jr auto-injector devices may laboriously dodge of their carrier tube – a problem the agency says could prevent or delay emergency treatment, perhaps leading to patient’s death or disability.
After Pfizer Canada, one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical company notified the agency about the EpiPens’ labels have been inappropriately applied in a small number of devices, the advisory came.
The affected products have expiry dates from April 2018 to October 2019.
Pfizer is not recalling the auto-injectors “as the risk can be mitigated easily by pharmacists and patients by checking devices before an emergency situation arises to make sure they slide easily out of their carrier tube”, according to the advisory.
The pharmaceutical company was unaware of any reports of product malfunctions concerning this issue in Canada, stated by the advisory.
What are EpiPen and EpiPen Jr?
