‘Shiro’ means head and ‘Dhara’ is flow. Combination of these two Sanskrit words is Shirodhara. A continuous flow of oils, milk, water, or butter milk on head is an ancient art to reduce stress.
Shirodhara is a classical Ayurvedic procedure of dripping oil or medicated oil on the forehead of the patient.
It leads to the state of alert calmness similar to the relaxation response observed through meditation.
How is it done?
Experts are required to perform Shirodhara. A person lays down on bed facing upwards.

Performer warms up oil and puts in a bowl. Bowl is placed up over the head and oil is poured on a point in between the eyebrows.
