UN-sanctioned Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund has been named as the head of the ‘acting government’ of Afghanistan.

He was one of the founders of the outfit and hails from its birthplace Kandahar. Akhund has headed the Taliban’s leadership council and decision-making body ‘Rehbari Shura’ for 20 years and was a minister in the Afghan Taliban government in 1996-2001.
