The Kerala High Court on Monday directed Kerala government to inform about the steps taken by the Special Investigation Team of the Kerala Police probing the case of alleged rape of a nun by bishop Franco Mulakkal of the Roman Catholic Church. A bench comprising of Chief Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice AK Jayansankaran Nambiar inquired whether the bishop was questioned by the team in Jalandhar when it went there about a month ago. It also asked the police to inform about the steps taken after the Jalandhar visit.

Meanwhile, three days after Kerala MLA PC George gave out a derogatory statement made against a nun who was allegedly raped by Bishop Franco Mulakkal, Kerala State Police will record the statement of the nun. This comes as the first step before registering a case against the independent MLA. After the victim issues a statement, the police can then go ahead and register a case for outraging the modesty of a woman against the MLA.

Earlier, the Church declared war against the Kerala nun. The Missionaries of Jesus issued a press statement on Monday rejecting the allegations leveled against the Bishop. The Church also sought to defend the accused Bishop in the case and took on the victim instead.

The Missionaries of Jesus in Jalandhar has lashed out at the nun and said the “innocent Bishop is being crucified with baseless allegations,” adding, “our Bishop did not rape.”
