CHANDIGARH: The Department of Higher Education has decided to recruit 1158 posts in the government colleges of the state to meet the long standing demand for recruitment of staff. The recruitment would be done by Punjabi University, Patiala and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar by forming selection committees which have been directed to be completed within 45 days. He said that the ongoing series of hunger strikes of the Association of Universities and Colleges regarding the demands of the university cadre should be ended.

Mr. Pargat Singh said that recruitment of 1091 posts of Teaching Cadre and 67 posts of Librarian in Government Colleges would be completed within 45 days. He said that this recruitment was done by UGC. Will be under the guidelines. This recruitment will be done only on the basis of written test on the basis of pure merit in which no interview marks will be kept. A selection committee will be formed under the chairmanship of the Vice Chancellors of both the respective universities. Similarly in the colleges run by the government, keeping in view the demand of guest faculty, part time and contract lecturers, they will be given exemption and experience marks in the upper age limit for applying.

Mr. Pargat Singh said that higher education would be given special priority for the betterment of the youth of the state and for the betterment of the state. He said that for the prosperity of the state further reforms were required in the field of higher education for which guidance would be sought by forming a committee of experts and educators associated with this field. Today is the 45th day of the ongoing hunger strike under the banner of College Teachers Association. Dr. Surinder Singh, Dr. Anish Soni, Prof. Raman Kumar, Dr. Harjinder Kaur and Dr. Manpreet Singh were on hunger strike. Pargat Singh finished it.
