After a massive drive for Swachh Bharat, India now becomes the host of the World Toilet Summit which took place in Mumbai on November 19.

Delegates from the private sector, experts in water and sanitation sectors as well as NGOs and the government institutions have come on this platform to fight challenges in a sustainable way.

The Summit began in 2001 when the topics of clean water and improved sanitation were not on a global agenda.

But on 19th November, it was the sixth goal among the 70 goals of sustainable development.

One of the leaders at World Toilet Summit 2018 and Organizer of the event, Jack said, “Toilet has become one of the hot topic ever since Prime Minister Modi declared that he is distributing 110 million toilets to Swachh Bharat.”

“Of course, after you have constructed the toilet which will finish on 2nd October next year. Then we have to talk to about maintaining it, cleaning it, emptying it, also the treatment not to dirty the water bodies either the underground water or rivers, then only we will have a continuous sustainable sanitation.”

Even though we still have more than 10 years to achieve the sustainable development goals, but looking at the past record of last three decades, one really does need to fast-track the progress in the water and sanitation sector in order to achieve clean water access and improved sanitation for every individual worldwide.
