New Delhi – Draupadi Murmu is the candidate of BJP led NDA for the coming Presidential Election 2022.
Murmu has been appointed as Governor of Jharkhand and served as 9th Governor from 2015 to 2021. She hails from state of Odisha.
She is the first Governor of Jharkhand who completed 5 years term. Adding to that she is the first person or candidate belonging to schedule tribes category who has been nominated as presidential candidate.
In 1997, Murmu was elected as the councillor of Rairanpur Nagar Panchayat and also remained national vice president of Bhartiya Janta Party scheduled tribes morcha.
She was Minister of State with independent charge for Commerce and Transport and Fisheries and Animal Resources Development during Biju Janta Dal and Bhartiya Janta Party.
Murmu born on June 20, 1958 in Santhal Ethnic group in Baidaposi village of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
Biju Janta Dal Chief Naveen Patnayak said he is delighted to know Draupadi Murmu is being announced as the candidate of NDA for the top most post of country.He said he felt delighted when Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed this with him. It was indeed the proud moment for the people of Odhisha, he added.
