-250 BUSES ADDED TO FLEET IN PAST 6 MONTHS, 100 MORE TO JOIN
-PRTC TO RUN 7 MORE NEW AIR CONDITIONED HVAC BUSES IN PUNJAB
CHANDIGARH: The Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) under the leadership and guidance of the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh is marching ahead on the road to economic success while on the other hand is also proving to be a boon for the state residents with the addition of new buses to the fleet and the operating of new roots. Not only this but keeping in view the facilitation of the Punjabi diaspora abroad, 7 new Volvo buses from 5 big cities of Punjab are plying to and from the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi and the initiative has evoked a massive response from the people. This was disclosed here today by the Transport Minister, Punjab, Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary in a statement.
Mrs. Chaudhary said that a large number of NRIs from Punjab travel to the international airport at New Delhi to catch flights to different countries. Earlier, the PRTC Volvo bus just used to drop the passengers at the airport and turned back, it didn’t had the permission to pick up the passengers. But, now the PRTC has started operating 7 volvo buses which ply from the cities of Patiala, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur to the international airport and pick up passengers from there and turn back. This service began from 1st of July and has got an overwhelming response. The minister said that this has resulted in ease to the Punjabis travelling to the airport thereby reducing the expenditure of travelling in private vehicles. The Transport Minister further said that under the guidance of the Chief Minister the PRTC is making strenuous and whole hearted efforts to uplift the public transport system. The minister said that during the past 6 months 250 buses have been added to the fleet out of which 150 are under kilometre scheme and the rest of the 100 are under PRTC.
Elaborating more, Mrs. Chaudhary said that there are plans to include 100 more buses into the fleet of PRTC in future. Apart from this, 7 air conditioned HVAC buses would be plied towards the various cities of the state. The minister added that adding new routes is also very much in the scheme of things so as to not leave any village, town, or city unconnected from the transport network.
