Chandigarh –  Senior Leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) and Former Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa has demanded bonus from Punjab and Centre Government to compensate the financial  losses incurred by the farmers due to very low wheat yield this season.

A minimum bonus of Rs 500 per quintal should be given to the farmers to compensate for their financial crisis, demanded Dhindsa.

In a statement issued here, Dhindsa said the farmers are feeling distressed due to low yield of wheat this season. Due to continuous rains and sudden changes in weather for several consecutive days after sowing wheat, the yield of wheat is 30 to 40 per cent less than last season, he added.

Dhindsa further said the expected yield of wheat should be around 20 quintals per acre but its somewhere around 12 to 14 quintals per acre this time due to which farmers are disappointed because the yield would not meet the cost of tge  crop cost, said the former Finance Minister.

He said that farmers who were already suffering from the economic downturn have been hit hard by these low yields. This natural calamity hit the crop badly .

Parminder Singh Dhindsa demanded that a minimum bonus of Rs.500 per quintal should be given to the farmers by the Punjab and Centre government to cover the financial loss incurred by the farmers so that the farmer who was on the brink of the financial crisis could be saved.

Dhindsa also urge the chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to fulfil the promises made by the Aam Aadmi Party for the welfare of the farmers before the Assembly elections.
