Sangrur: The Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today asked the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann as to who was in control of things in Punjab and who was actually governing the state. “Be sincere to your conscience and tell the Punjabis, are you really in control of things or you are yourself being controlled by someone else”, Warring challenged the Chief Minister while campaigning for the party candidate Dalvir Singh Goldy for the parliamentary bye-elections here today.
Asserting that the “weak and helpless” Chief Minister had miserably failed Punjab and Punjabis, he pointed out, the law and order was the worst casualty. “I am sure Bhagwant Mann must be realizing it himself also, but is feeling helpless since his hands are tied up as he is not allowed to do anything of his own”, the PCC president said, while claiming that the Chief Minister did not enjoy any independence in his day to day functioning. He reiterated that there was an atmosphere of fear prevailing in Punjab as the police had failed to nab the culprits of all major crimes, which had emboldened the criminals and they were resorting to crime with all impunity.
He disclosed that only yesterday an elderly woman was killed and robbed in the heart of Amritsar city. He said, murders, loot and robbery had become a routine, as criminals had no fear of law. He said, the Sangrur parliamentary bye-election was a godsend opportunity for the people of the area to send a clear message to the powers that be who are ruling from Delhi that Punjabis will not tolerate such dominance and subjugation they have unleashed in the state.
Warring asked what had the Aam Aadmi Party government done during the last three months for Punjab. “Except for resorting to vendetta and performing notional and ceremonial acts, this government was yet to open its account of performance”, he said, adding, a shock defeat in Sangrur may probably wake up this sleeping government which has turned careless and unconcerned after winning the Vidhan Sabha elections. Appealing to people to vote for the Congress candidate Dalvir Singh Goldy, Warring said he had a proven record of five years in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha where he had represented his constituency with great energy.
Besides, he added, Goldy had great experience having started his public life from Panjab University. He said, he will not just be an asset for Sangrur, but the whole of Punjab once he reaches the parliament after getting elected from here.
