Targeted grazing project in Fresno aims to control invasive plants and restore approximately 180 acres of habitat
FRESNO, California, July 22, 2026 — California land managers have deployed approximately 400 goats and sheep in northeast Fresno as part of an environmentally focused effort to reduce wildfire fuel and restore land affected by invasive vegetation.
The animals are grazing on properties within the San Joaquin River Conservancy near Woodward Park. The work forms the first stage of a roughly 180-acre restoration initiative involving the Sierra Resource Conservation District and the City of Fresno.
