Overseas Indians receive assistance with passports, birth registration and other consular matters
JOHANNESBURG, July 26, 2026: The Consulate General of India in Johannesburg organized a consular camp, open house and community-interaction programme as part of its outreach to Indian citizens and members of the wider diaspora in South Africa.
The programme operated from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., according to information released by the mission. Services available at the camp included the reissuance of Indian passports and assistance related to birth registration and birth certificates.
Officials also held an interactive session addressing questions concerning passports, Overseas Citizen of India cards, visas and other consular matters. The format allowed community members to discuss individual procedural concerns directly with consular representatives.
Applicants seeking document-related services were expected to complete the relevant online application and bring the required supporting material. The camp was intended to make assistance more accessible to people who might otherwise need to rely on regular appointments or travel farther for consular guidance.
Such outreach programmes can be particularly useful for Indian nationals who need passport renewals, police-clearance documentation, registration of a child’s birth or guidance concerning emergency and miscellaneous consular services.
The July 26 programme represented an extension of existing consular services. It did not introduce new rules governing Indian passports, visas or OCI status. Applicants must continue to follow the eligibility conditions, documentation requirements and fees published on official Indian government portals.
The Consulate had formally announced the camp on July 21. Its subsequent community report said participants received guidance on passport, OCI, visa and related issues.
Members of the public should rely on the Consulate’s official website for current requirements and avoid unauthorized intermediaries offering guaranteed approvals or expedited documents.
