The Indian-American community marked India’s 80th Independence Day by creating a Guinness World Record at Veterans Memorial Park in Parsippany, New Jersey.
More than 1,300 American flags were arranged to form the number “250,” commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States. Indian tricolours were placed around the display, symbolizing the relationship between India and the US.
The initiative was jointly organized by the Consulate General of India in New York and the Federation of Indian Associations of New York, New Jersey and New England, with support from Zoho. The record was officially described as the “Largest Flagpole Number.”
New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Dale G. Caldwell, US Congresswoman Analilia Mejia, Indian Consul General Binaya Srikanta Pradhan and Parsippany Mayor Pulkit Desai were among the officials reported to have attended.
Organizers said the display recognized the Indian-American community’s contributions to business, technology, healthcare, education, public service and culture. It was a ceremonial community event and did not establish a new public holiday or legal benefit.
