India has confirmed that the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor will remain suspended because of the continuing security situation involving Pakistan. The corridor has been closed since May 7, 2025.
The confirmation came as a delegation of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee met representatives of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. The SGPC requested visas for more than 7,500 applicants wishing to attend the November celebrations marking Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Parkash Gurpurab at Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib.
SGPC representatives said they had received over 7,500 passports from prospective pilgrims. They also claimed that approximately 1,800 visas are normally allocated to pilgrims travelling under its arrangements. Pakistan has not yet approved the requested expansion.
Indian officials said Sikh jathas can continue travelling to designated religious sites in Pakistan under the 1974 bilateral protocol, subject to security conditions, visa approval and the agreed quota.
The SGPC has also requested the reopening of the Kartarpur Corridor. The Indian government, however, has not announced a reopening date.
