Canadian police have issued formal security warnings to two Sikh activists after reportedly receiving intelligence indicating credible and imminent threats to their lives.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police issued “duty to warn” notices to Inderjeet Singh Gosal of Caledon, Ontario, and Manjinder Singh of Abbotsford, British Columbia. Such notices are generally delivered when police believe that reliable information points to a serious risk to an individual’s safety.
According to reports, the notices did not identify the suspected individuals or organizations behind the threats. Police reportedly told the activists that their relatives and friends were not direct targets, although people accompanying them could face danger if an attack occurred.
Gosal is involved in organizing non-binding referendums seeking support for an independent Sikh state known as Khalistan. He has reportedly received similar warnings previously.
No evidence publicly released by police establishes responsibility for the alleged threats. Any claims concerning their origin should therefore be treated as allegations unless confirmed through an official investigation or court proceedings.
