Union leader alleges move is aimed at reducing his presence in Secretariat

The Punjab government has transferred prominent employee leader Sukhchain Singh Khera from an administrative branch of the Punjab Civil Secretariat to the Planning branch located outside the Secretariat complex. The move comes amid intensifying protests over dearness allowance arrears and other employee demands. Khera has alleged that the transfer is intended to reduce his presence in the Secretariat because of his role in employee mobilisation. The allegation has not been established independently, and the government has not publicly characterised the transfer as punitive. Employee unions are also preparing further agitation as the state considers challenging a Punjab and Haryana High Court ruling on DA-related payments.
