Punjab Congress chief accuses BJP of targeting Opposition leader

Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has criticised the FIR registered against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in Uttarakhand over comments relating to a purification ceremony in Haldwani. Police registered the case following a complaint by Amit Kumar, a member of the Scheduled Caste community, who alleged that Gandhi’s remarks presented an incomplete account and hurt community sentiments. Warring, however, accused the BJP government of acting against Gandhi instead of examining allegations surrounding the purification ritual itself. The competing claims have turned the case into another political confrontation between the Congress and BJP. The allegations in the FIR remain subject to investigation.
