Harpal Cheema says no political leader can claim immunity from legal process
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has said that Congress state president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring must face the legal process over alleged derogatory remarks concerning late Union minister Buta Singh. The Aam Aadmi Party has accused Warring of using caste-insensitive language and argues that political status cannot place anyone above the law. The Congress has pushed back against what it sees as political targeting. The controversy has become increasingly significant because Buta Singh was a prominent Dalit leader and former Union Home Minister. Any determination of criminal responsibility, however, rests with investigators and the courts rather than political parties.
