Commission cites delay in case over alleged remarks against former Union minister Buta Singh
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has asked Punjab authorities to take steps, in accordance with law, to arrest Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring within five days in the case concerning alleged derogatory remarks about former Union Home Minister Buta Singh. The NCSC expressed concern over delays in the investigation and said recommendations made at an earlier hearing had not been acted upon. Police representatives appeared before the panel on August 31. The commission’s direction significantly raises political pressure on the Congress leader, although Warring remains entitled to all protections and remedies available under law and the allegations are yet to be adjudicated by a court.
