An early-morning explosion near Augsburg’s main railway station in southern Germany injured two Ukrainian teenagers and prompted the temporary closure of the transportation hub.
According to German authorities, an unidentified object exploded at approximately 3:15 a.m. The injured individuals—a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man—sustained minor injuries reportedly associated with the sound and force of the blast.
Police later found a second suspicious object, leading officers to close the station and suspend rail services at approximately 8:30 a.m. Explosives specialists subsequently determined that the second object was harmless. The station reopened at around 10 a.m., and train operations resumed.
Bavarian criminal-police explosives experts are investigating the nature of the first device and the circumstances surrounding the explosion. Authorities had not announced a motive or identified a suspect at the time of reporting.
Why it matters: Although the physical injuries were minor, an unexplained explosion near a busy railway station required a significant security response and disrupted public transportation.
