A group of Pakistani Sikh pilgrims travelling to India for a pilgrimage to Sri Hemkund Sahib was reportedly prevented from boarding its flight at Faisalabad International Airport.
According to the pilgrims, airport authorities asked them to present a no-objection certificate, or NOC. Members of the group maintained that they had not previously been informed that such a document was required for the journey.
The pilgrims were left stranded while seeking clarification from the relevant authorities. A detailed public statement explaining the documentary requirement had not been issued by Pakistani officials when the development was reported.
The incident is significant because Sikh pilgrims from Pakistan have recently encountered additional travel costs and procedural difficulties when visiting historic gurdwaras in India. Clear and consistent rules are essential to ensure that religious journeys are not disrupted at the last moment.
