-Directs Civil Surgeons to ensure Mother & Child Health Care and Immunization Services in Government Hospitals during Curfew
Chandigarh, April 23: Despite Lockdown in the month of March, about 32000 pregnant women have registered for Antenatal Check-up and 25000 deliveries have been taken place at both govt. and private hospitals in the State.

Giving these details in a press communiqué, the Health Minister said that about 99 percent of deliveries are Institutional out of which 58 percent have been taken place in Government hospitals and 41 percent in Private sector. Maximum deliveries have taken place in district Ludhiana is 3000, Amritsar 2550, Patiala 2000, Bathinda 1690, Gurdaspur 1330, Sangrur 1300 and Hoshiarpur 1300.

Underlining the action taken to curb the spread of Corona Virus in State, the Cabinet Minister said that first case of covid-19 was reported in Punjab in mid of March in district Nawashaher. After that curfew was imposed all over Punjab, but directions were also given to all Civil Surgeons to ensure that pregnant women, newborn and children should not suffer due to prevailing lockdown and curfew. So the essential services of MCH and immunization are being provided at all govt. facilities round the clock for pregnant women, High risk pregnancies, newborn and Children in all the districts of Punjab.

To further improve the Facilities for Pregnant women and Children, the Health Minister has issued the orders that all the empanelled private hospitals for Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojna could now admit the pregnant women for Caesarean delivery, high Risk delivery and Normal delivery and caesarean hysterectomy under this scheme without any need of taking referral from govt. facilities.
Dr.Prabhdeep Kaur Johal, Director Family Welfare have also repeatedly stressed and sent directives to all the Civil Surgeons to ensure that all essential high priority non Covid services like MCH, Immunization and family Planning do not suffer due to prevailing condition.
The comprehensive guidelines have also been issued by Director Family Welfare to enable the delivery of essential MCH and Immunization services.
