Letter written to Chief Electoral Officer to take action against Zee Punjab Haryana Himachal TV channel for violating NBSA guidelines
Sangrur/Chandigarh: Returning Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Jitendra Jorwal said that the district administration was fully committed to conduct the by-election of Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency in a transparent and fair manner. The Returning Officer said that the instructions issued by the Election Commission of India regarding by-elections are being strictly followed.
He said that the election activities of the candidates contesting from Lok Sabha constituency were being monitored continuously so that no one could influence the voters with any illegal means. Jitendra Jorwal said that all the political advertisements have been removed from the government buildings on the instructions of the Election Commission and no candidate can place advertisement on private buildings without written permission.
He said that election publicity was being allowed only on paid sites at public places. Jorwal said that besides monitoring various political activities, the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) has also set up and working 24 hours to keep vigil on news and advertisements of TV channels and newspapers. He said that following the violation of NBSA instructions, a letter has been written to Punjab Chief Electoral Officer to take action against a private TV channel Zee Punjab Haryana Himachal.
The Returning Officer also appealed to the media houses to cover the by-elections responsibly and comply with guidelines of the Election Commission and refrain from engaging in paid news or any activity that could influence the voters.
