Chandigarh, May 6: Advising SAD Leaders not to play petty politics on the sensitive issue of pilgrims, Punjab Sports & Youth and NRIs Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi accused the Akali leaders of making futile attempts to politicize the Pilgrims issue, who returned from the pilgrimage of Nanded (Hazur Sahib).

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the Minister said that the people of the state will never forgive those engaged in negative politics. He advised the SAD leaders to realize that people cannot be served through petty politics or raised sensitive issues in negative manner. “One has to stand with them to serve humanity”, he added.

Rana Sodhi asserted that Punjab Government led by Captain Amarinder Singh did not leave the people alone during this pandemic unlike the Akali leaders, who were just content with issuing statements. He regretted that the opposition parties had proved that they only wanted to protect personal interests at a time when they should have risen above petty politics.

He said that the pandemic had changed the entire world altogether but the negative politics of opposition had remained unchanged. He remarked that opposition’s attempt to divide the community was deplorable.
The Minister regretted that SAD and other opposition parties had done nothing to help overcome corona virus except lip-service. “It, rather, tried to divide the people instead of standing with them. The negative role being played by them in the prevailing circumstances is condemnable”, he maintained. He reiterated that these leaders had no agenda to deal with Corona Virus and its politics on this important issue was not in the interest of the nation particularly in the state of Punjab.
He emphasized that state needed unity and brotherhood than ever before. The government is fully committed to overcoming the pandemic and public service will be steadfastly continued in this difficult moment, the Minister concluded.
