Chandigarh – Senior Congress Leader & Punjab’s Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa has called upon various national and regional political parties to follow Indian National Congress (INC) to usher in internal democracy in the functioning of the outfits.
“ The oldest political party of the country, the congress has shown the way and set an example by holding elections within the ambit of its outfit for the appointment of its new national President. “ I think it is time for other political parties also to follow suit”, added Bajwa.
Bajwa said there was no internal democracy in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) when it came down to appointing its national president. The saffron party which once claimed to be the party with a difference and drew its ideological and political strength from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) must recall when was the last time it held elections within the party fold to choose its national president.
Bajwa said similarly Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) which boasted of being a more than hundred year old regional political party should tell the people under which election process Sukhbir Singh Badal was elected as the president of the outfit. “ Even now when many senior leaders of his own party have raised the banner of revolt against him after losing two state assembly polls consecutively Sukhbir Singh Badal refused to handover the baton to someone else who could be more deserving”, added Bajwa.
And the most recently formed political outfit by the name of Aam Aadmi Party has disappointed all and sundry on this front.
“ The AAP’s constitution clearly lays down a term for its national convenor for two years. And the same convenor can be re-appointed for another term. However, Arvind Kejirwal in order to stay put as the national convenor of the party has ignored his own party constitution. This is called greed for power. His former colleagues such as Yogendra Yadav, Kumar Vishwas, Prashant Bhushan and many more abandoned him as well as his party primarily due to lack of internal democracy within the outfit”, said Bajwa.
